Fit4Digital: Fostering digital transformation in HE Systems of Latin America & Caribbean

Fit4Digital is supporting structural reforms in the higher education sector of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) regions, primarily focusing on Mexico, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic, with the aim of introducing and facilitating the broad proliferation of microcredentials as a tool for improving relevance, quality and flexibility of higher education in the era of Digital Transition. As a second goal, the project aims to facilitate the emergence of Trustworthy and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulation for the LAC HE using the EU AI Act as an inspiration. Following the European Council’s Recommendation on micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability, the project will facilitate the update of the National Qualifications Frameworks in the LAC countries, build national consensus over principles underlaying micro-credentials and facilitate their mutual recognition, initiate national dialogues on Ethical AI in and for education and stimulate educational activities in the field of AI literacy. In order to validate the suggested reforms, to provide feedback to the policy level, as well as to facilitate the proliferation of micro-credentials, the project will implement the pilot programme covering the capacity building on micro-credentials and the development of AI literacy educational units leading to micro-credentials. Finally, the project dissemination and sustainability activities will spread the obtained results to all relevant education and training providers in the beneficiary countries and wider in the region. The LAC partners involved are: Ministries of Education and representative group of Universities. On the European side, the project consortium includes 3 Higher Education Institutions with complementary competences, the Italian ENIC-NARIC Centre and a Quality Assurance Expert Company. The Argentinian associated partner, UBA, will play the observer & contributor role to support the dissemination towards the south of the region.
