BADDO: Bringing AI to the Discovery of Historiographical Data to Overcome Traditional Barriers
The BADDO project is a groundbreaking initiative aiming to design and fine-tune an Artificial Intelligence model in Historiography, focusing on the late antiquity religions and its modern reception. Inspired by Visigothic Queen Baddo, this project aspires to challenge existing preconceptions and introduce novel, humanistic approaches to employing AI-driven solutions for the exploration of historiographical background, emphasized on the Visigothic Iberia. The main goal of BADDO is to design AI models that are not only technologically advanced but also adhere to European ethical and human rights standards.
The project is structured around four main objectives: First, to facilitate cultural contextualization and interdisciplinary data integration, aiming for a deeper and more accurate understanding of historical context. Second, to develop a humanistic AI model, built upon existing AI models, evaluating and comparing current and emerging approaches (e.g., generic LLM models such as LLama, prompt generation techniques such as RAG, or fine-tuning methods such as QLoRa). It will be fine-tuned with both existing historiographical data about the Visigothic period and manually checking in historical content and language processing to draw new conclusions on how historians have interpreted the Arianism debate in the Visigothic Kingdom. Third, the project aims to integrate an ethics and policy framework within the BADDO platform, and to formulate ethical guidelines for future researchers applying AI on historiographical sources. Fourth, the development of a web interface to assist m learners and researchers in the creation of novel historical frameworks based on inclusivity standards.
BADDO represents a step forward in the intersection of AI-driven techniques and historiographical research, focusing on Late Antiquity religions and their modern reception, by embracing the legacy of the Visigothic Queen Baddo.
